The Netanyahus’ Missing Gifts

State Prosecutor Amit Aisman considered and contemplated, analyzed and agonized, and decided this week not to order a criminal investigation against Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara in the affair of the missing gifts. At the heart of the affair are 27 gifts that are considered valuable (worth more than 300 shekels, about $80) out of 42 items the prime minister was obligated to return to the state upon leaving office in 2021. Topping the list is what is thought to be the first Hebrew Bible printed with commentary by Rashi, which Russian President Vladimir Putin gave Netanyahu at the end of their meeting in Sochi in 2017 and is valued at millions of dollars. Netanyahu called the gesture “moving” and promised to deliver the Bible to the National Library of Israel, but never did.
